Before recommending RFID
What we need to understand first
RFID can be a strong fit when the tracking problem has clear assets, practical read points, useful events, and a software record that can act on the result. It can also be a poor fit if the materials, process, economics, or location expectations do not line up.
The discovery conversation should identify the real workflow before anyone commits to a specific reader, tag, portal, scanner, printer, active tag, or software configuration.
Discovery inputs
- Assets, items, people, documents, containers, or shipments being tracked
- Materials, surfaces, packaging, temperature, cleaning, impact, or outdoor exposure
- Movements, locations, handoffs, read points, and event timing
- Expected events, exception cases, and what users should do when something does not match

Integration
RFID events often need to move between systems
RFID data may need to connect with APIs, databases, ERP, WMS, MES, label data, order systems, inventory records, maintenance systems, customer portals, or reporting tools. The integration should define identifier ownership, event timing, exception handling, retry behavior, and the system of record.
Named integration support should be confirmed during discovery. A project can use Rocket Tracked, Rocket Shipped, Rocket Print, Prime2Defense, customer systems, or a mixed architecture depending on the workflow.
Hardware and validation
Tags, readers, antennas, and read zones need representative testing
RFID performance depends on the item material, tag placement, reader and antenna layout, RF environment, operator process, software filtering, and exception handling. A test on a sample surface is not the same as validation in the actual workflow.
